Christina Mercado didn’t anticipate things would be so rocky after graduating from Georgetown University with an MBA. Mercado also holds a degree in civil engineering from Tufts University. But in a time of economic turmoil, the 2002 Lexington High School alumna, found herself in the same position as many college graduates: jobless.

Following a slew of promising internships around the world, Mercado decided she was going to find a full-time position, one way or another. So she started her own publishing company, High Five Books.

With no background in art or writing, Mercado ventured into the unknown and is now ready to release the first in her “Go Bunny” series, which she calls a “children’s book for grown-ups.” The series, written and illustrated by Mercado, features the adorable adventures of Bunny, an adorable fuzzy creature, who, like Mercado once was, is just looking for a job. Her first book — “You Can Do It, Bunny!” — is due out in e-book format this January and as a hard copy in April.
